You may be surprised to know that there is public funding available to conduct ecological restoration, bushland and agriculture land management throughout the Sunshine Coast. In this blog I'll summarise the Landholder Environment Grant and how we can help you develop a successful application.

Landholder Environment Grants

This funding is designed to support the preservation and restoration of ecological values. Up to $15,000 is available to private landholders for environmental management actions including:

  • Revegetating degraded areas and establishing native vegetation corridors and buffer zones

  • Weed control to assist the rehabilitation of native vegetation areas

  • Fencing to restrict stock access to significant areas of native vegetation, wetlands or waterways

  • Installing off-stream stock watering points and stock crossings

  • Reducing sediment and nutrient runoff on farms

  • Modifying existing fencing to make it more wildlife friendly (note that installation or modification of boundary fencing is not eligible).

Priority is given to projects that are cost-effective and deliver meaningful outcomes throughout areas of high ecological value and the broader landscape.

How HolHab can help

We can assess and present your project through an Ecological Restoration lens. Identify features of high ecological value including threatened flora, fauna and vegetation communities, shelter and breeding features, ecological corridors and other landscape benefits. Furthermore, we will identify the degrading processes and prescribe management actions accordingly to ensure a demonstrable and meaningful ecological outcome. We can provide the required detail to deliver comprehensive revegetation plans, creek rehabilitation and weed management plans that provide the technical material and a step-by-step schedule for implementation.

We can develop a strong grant application supported by a robust ecological assessment and conducted by a suitably qualified ecologist that will clearly demonstrate a meaningful ecological outcome from your project.

This will provide a strong case for your application to protect and enhance the ecological value on your property. There needs to be genuine commitment and cash or in-kind contributions from the landholder to deliver the project in a cost-effective and risk-mitigated manner. Typically, a landholder has purchased or otherwise inherited degraded habitat which may look like vegetation clearing around creeks or other bushland, erosion features and severe weed infestations that outcompete or restrict native vegetation. Additionally, cattle and equestrian properties can set up or alter fencing to safeguard waterways and native bushland while adding extra watering points.

The Landholder Environment Grant is a great opportunity for Sunshine Coast landholders to subside the cost of improving their property. After all, restoring bushland and waterways then experiencing the return of wildlife and clean, healthy water is priceless.

Sunshine Coast landholders are in a great position to improve their property and make a positive impact to the community and ecological landscape. We are very proud to live and work within a region that offers public funding for such projects and we're enthusiastic to help you and the land benefit.
